ElevenLabs turns typed text into natural-sounding speech, and can do much more with audio. Here's what it costs, what the free plan really gets you, and who it's for.

Hands-on tested Oct 2026. We used the tool ourselves on the free plan; details are in the “Our hands-on test” section. Prices and plans are from official pages (last checked Oct 2026). How we test

Quick verdict (hands-on tested on the free plan)

Good fit if: you want to try AI voiceovers for free, or you need a voice for videos, podcasts or audiobooks and are happy to pay a few dollars a month.

Maybe skip if: you need lots of audio for free: 10,000 credits is only about 10 minutes of speech a month.

What is ElevenLabs?

You type (or paste) text, pick a voice, and ElevenLabs reads it out loud. Its pricing page lists these tools on every plan, including Free: Text to Speech, Speech to Text, Sound Effects, Voice Design, Music, Productions, Image, and Studio projects for longer pieces like audiobooks.

How the pricing works, in plain English

ElevenLabs uses credits. Every plan gets a monthly pot of credits that all its tools share. For text to speech, roughly 1 credit = 1 character of text (the exact cost depends on the voice model). So 10,000 credits is roughly 10,000 characters, about a few pages of text.

PlanPrice (monthly billing)Credits / monthNotable extras
Free$010,000 (about 10 min of speech)3 Studio projects; in our test the plan card listed a commercial license for Speech and Music
Starter$630,000 (about 30 min)Commercial license, instant voice cloning, 20 Studio projects, Dubbing Studio
Creator$22121,000 (about 121 min)Professional voice cloning, extra credits
Pro$99600,000 (about 600 min)Higher-quality audio output (192 kbps, 44.1kHz PCM via API)
Scale / Business$299 / $9901.8M / 6MTeam seats (3 / 10)

“About X min” uses ElevenLabs' own approximate minutes-included figures. Annual billing costs 10× the monthly price (two months free). Prices exclude taxes. When we checked, Starter and Creator also had first-month discounts; those are temporary, so we've listed regular prices.
