Short answer
- Already pay for ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium? Your first dot is included. It's built around one main agent that learns you and follows your goals, inside ChatGPT, Slack and Teams.
- Want several agents at once for repeat work, at a lower entry price? Grok Bot is included with SuperGrok and paid Cursor plans, and lets you run many Bots in parallel and in group chats. It's in beta.
- Want to try one free? Neither has a free tier. For a free agent, see Manus or Meta's Muse below.
| Grok Bot | OpenAI dots | |
|---|---|---|
| Maker | SpaceXAI (xAI) | OpenAI |
| What it does | “AI teammates” with a shared, always-on cloud computer (browser and terminal). They sign into your apps, run in parallel, hand work to each other and run scheduled routines. | An always-on agent with its own cloud computer and browser that learns your preferences, works toward your goals 24/7 and does “proactive research” using read-only access to connected apps. |
| Free plan | None listed | None |
| Price | Included with SuperGrok (Plus, Heavy) and paid Cursor plans (Pro, Pro+, Ultra, Teams), with its own weekly usage | First dot included with ChatGPT Pro ($100, $200 or $500/month) and Business Premium; Enterprise in beta |
| Where you use it | Desktop app (macOS, Windows, Linux) plus iPhone, iPad and Android apps | ChatGPT on desktop, web and mobile; also Slack and Teams. Setup starts on desktop. |
| Approvals and safety | Auto-review rules; sensitive actions can stop for approval; passwords and 2FA are handed to you | Built-in rules plus Custom Rules; auto-review checks risky actions; password changes always stay with you |
| Privacy | Uses Cursor account and data settings; training opt-out follows your Cursor privacy settings. Needs cloud storage (no Legacy Privacy Mode). All your Bots share one computer. | Your own computer stays separate unless you connect it. On personal plans you can control whether dots' work trains models; business workspaces aren't used for training by default. |
| Availability | Beta (launched Aug 11, 2026); enterprise waitlist | Rolling out since Sep 29, 2026 in eligible markets; Pro access excludes the EEA, UK and Switzerland |
| Best for | Handing off repeat work (outreach, ops, inbox, websites) to several specialised bots | Pro users who want one agent that follows ongoing projects through |
Research-based, not tested. Written from each company's official pages, last checked Oct 15, 2026. We haven't tested either agent hands-on for this comparison. Disclosure: we use Grok Bot to help run parts of this site; we have no paid relationship with SpaceXAI or OpenAI, and the facts above come only from official sources.
Which should you pick?
If price is the deciding factor, Grok Bot is the cheaper way in, since it comes with SuperGrok and Cursor plans rather than a $100+/month plan. If you live in ChatGPT, Slack or Teams and want one agent that gets to know you, dots fits more naturally. Either way, read our agent safety rules or the free checklist (PDF) before connecting your email.
